The Purpose of Marriage

I don’t know about you, but I’d like to get married one day. But one of the most important steps you can take, in my opinion, is to study the word and what God says about it! So what I did was take advantage of an AWESOME devotional on my Bible app called “Dating with a Purpose.” One of the topics they covered was why God would allow us to be married, even though there will be no marriage in Heaven.

Basically, God uses marriage to help us during our walk with Christ. Our spouses serve as our personal traveling buddies, as we navigate through this life until we unite with God in Heaven. And once we get to Heaven, Then, once we get to Heaven, God’s love will be so powerful that it will fill every void we ever had!

I know you may be thinking, Well, if that’s the case, then there’s no reason for me to get married then!

Not true!

God said Himself in the Bible that it is not good for man to be alone (Genesis 2:18). Not to mention that God is a God of relationship!

Jesus never married, but he had his disciples.
God made Eve specifically to help Adam and keep him company.
God uses marriage to minister to people all throughout the Bible.

Marriage is an amazing gift from God if we understand its purpose and take full advantage of its benefits!

Yes, some people never marry. But I don’t think God would give you that much of a desire to be married if He didn’t plan on granting your wish.

So if you want to get married, get married! If you don’t, that’s great too! But please, PLEASE keep in mind that marriage is a serious covenant before God that should not be taken advantage of.

If you’d like to nominate someone for the “Faith Features series or share something (Bible verse, a song, or a message…anything!) that God has put on your heart or have a question or comment you would like to share, you’re more than welcome! If you’re interested in writing a post for “Weekly Blessings,” offering up a topic suggestion, get in touch with me via FacebookTwitter, or Email; you can also simply comment below and I’ll make sure to get back with you!

  1. Beautiful and so true in such a short but straightforward way! My fiance and I are reading The Meaning of Marriage by Timothy Keller and we just finished the first chapter which is about what you just wrote! I recommend you to read the book! 🙂
