“As you connect with Jesus, I pray his devotion for you stirs your heart and deepens your desire to know him.” – Helen H. Lee
I have had the opportunity to explore the book Walk with Jesus: Bible Study for Women: A Year of Teachings and Prayers to Grow in Faith and Love by Helen H. Lee, and I have to say I have enjoyed every minute of it!
I’ve gone through my fair share of devotional books and struggled to keep up with the content. It’s for various reasons – the content was challenging to follow/keep up with, there wasn’t much insight, the text wasn’t very interactive, or I didn’t feel like I got much out of it. However, the layout of this particular devotional worked for me!
The first thing I liked about this devotional was the fact that it wasn’t broken down into days but into weeks. I’m super busy juggling businesses and my family life, so this makes it feel realistic and doable for me.
Secondly, I enjoyed the fact that there were prompts relating both to the text and my life and understanding of the text. The author asks questions that ensure you pay attention to what you read before exploring your thoughts and feelings. This is crucial because you must understand your material and its context before making any conclusions or relating to it. For example, one passage talked about Jesus’ baptism. She asks questions about the details of his baptism first, then goes into our thoughts and feelings on baptism and its significance – you can’t properly answer those questions if you first haven’t read about Jesus’ baptism or even learned what it is first!
Each section also includes a prayer and a weekly recap, which I find refreshing and helpful!
Last, but definitely not least, this book has space to write in it! Underneath each question, you can write your responses. There are also several lined note pages in the back of the book for you to continue your thoughts. Personally, I’m not huge on writing in my books, so if you’re like me, I’d suggest buying a notebook or using your preferred way to keep up with your answers so you don’t mark up the book – I’d advise this if you were planning to let someone borrow it or if your study group needs to share books.
Overall, I think the book is great, and I’m enjoying my studies! I would definitely give the book five stars!
