Weekly Blessings:Week 75:What Do You Stand For?
Hey guys! Hope you had a good Thanksgiving!
I don’t have anything major to share today, but I learned something earlier this week that I would like to share with you so you can be informed as well.
I was writing an article for work about the shooting in Chicago and other crimes in which police officers killed young African Americans when I ran upon something I didn’t realize before.

Anyway, in order to write the piece, I did some research on the Black Lives Matter movement – that’s where the inspiration for this message came from.
Of course when you think of the Black Lives Matter movement, you think “Okay, it’s about helping and taking care of Black people, we get it.” But look what I found in their “About” section:
It goes beyond the narrow nationalism that can be prevalent within Black communities, which merely call on Black people to love Black, live Black and buy Black, keeping straight cis Black men in the front of the movement while our sisters, queer and trans and disabled folk take up roles in the background or not at all.
Black Lives Matter affirms the lives of Black queer and trans folks, disabled folks, black-undocumented folks, folks with records, women and all Black lives along the gender spectrum. It centers those that have been marginalized within Black liberation movements. It is a tactic to (re)build the Black liberation movement.
I don’t know about you, but I didn’t know “Black Lives Matter” covered all of that.
DISCLAIMER: IN NO WAY AM I SAYING THAT I DISAGREE WITH THE MOVEMENT – IT’S GREAT THAT BLACK PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO GET TOGETHER TO FIGHT FOR THE COMMUNITY AND THE LIBERATION OF OUR RACE. THAT’S GREAT.
But answer me this: As Christians, are we able to properly stand by everything the movement stands for?
Granted, perhaps the movement is saying that everyone should be treated with love and respect – if so, that’s perfect. But what if the group advocates same-sex marriage and other gay and trans- gendered rights? Can a black Christian still get behind that movement?
AGAIN, IN NO WAY AM I ATTEMPTING TO BASH THE MOVEMENT OR THE PEOPLE INVOLVED IN IT. I’M SIMPLY ASKING A QUESTION BECAUSE I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW. WOULDN’T YOU LIKE TO KNOW?
At the end of the day, all I’m saying is that we as Christians, especially in this time, need to be vigilant of the things we tie ourselves to. They may seem like really positive things, but you never know what is at the pith.
I mean, Eve thought satan was just a snake….you see how that went down.
Be careful out here, people.
