Don’t Sell Yourself Short!

I don’t have a long, drawn out message for you guys today, but it is something that needs to be shared.

This is the last month of 2017, we want to make sure that it counts. Use this month to set yourself up for greater in 2018.

Don’t worry about what you did or didn’t do. Figure out what needs to be done for you to be BETTER.

These past few weeks have been rough, to say the least for me. So much so that I just had to allow myself to step away and clear my mind. And when I did….man….

I was watching Alexis Maston on Periscope talk about December being the month of enrichment and how this is setting the stage for 2017. But what got me the most was when she talked about people selling themselves short. I’m paraphrasing, but this was basically what she was saying:

“Do NOT allow yourself to settle for less anymore. Don’t sell yourself short anymore. If you did a project that was worth $100 but you only took $10 for it just to get some money, you sold yourself short. Don’t be afraid to charge what you’re worth and get what you deserve. And this does not just go for business and finance, this goes for all aspects of your life.”

I took that, let it marinate, and went on about my week.

I get to a meeting with a new client. We’re talking and plotting out what all she needs from me and then I give her an estimate of the costs. She’s like, “Oh wow, okay. That’s a great price.” Elated, I go ahead and start filling out the contract for her to sign. She says, “Now, Jessica, make sure that’s the correct estimate. Make sure to charge for your work.”

Okay, God, I hear You.

Then I have a second meeting right after with another new client. We’re, again, chatting away and he’s just talking and talking. He again asks me what it costs. I tell him, and he’s like, “Oh okay, great.” We just keep chatting. He asks me about how to determine pricing and I explain that it’s important to always keep the power in your hands, because you want to help everyone and get as many people to take your service as possible, but you still have to live at the end of the day. He says, “Yeah you’re right. That’s true. And people will only value you and your services as much as you do.”

…Alright, alright! I hear you, Lord!

I say all that to say, don’t sell yourself short. You deserve the world, God tells us that. He wants us to have what we deserve.

So make it your mission this year to not settle. Reach higher. Don’t be afraid to take a risk.

Have a blessed week!
