Something Borrowed, and Borrowed, and Borrowed…
I found this really neat story from The Daily Mail that I wanted to share with you guys.
Every girl knows that the most important part of a wedding is, of course, the dress! Everyone wants a pretty, memorable, and (preferably) affordable dress for their big day, correct?
Well some ladies chose to wear their mother’s dress – tradition, price, nostalgia – there’s nothing wrong with that at all. But what if you had a wedding dress that had been in your family for over 100 years?
Well that’s what happened to Abigail Kingston, who will be bride number eleven to walk down the aisle in her family’s wedding dress.
Isn’t that amazing? The dress was worn first in 1895 and has been passed down from generation to generation – it still is a beautiful family heirloom in 2015. Astounding!
Of course, the dress has gone under the knife a few times, causing it to be altered from it’s original version – it’s an extremely old dress and bodies in 1895 are much different from bodies of 2015! Nonetheless, the dress is still a beautiful way to celebrate centuries of love and to honor her ancestors’ memories.
I personally think this is the coolest thing ever. It’s not everyday that you’ll find someone who has something as precious as this in their possession!
What do you guys think? Would you wear your great-great-great grandmother’s wedding dress, or is that a bit too much for you? Do you have a family heirloom such as this that has been passed down from generation to generation?
