Weekly Blessings: Week 62: Take Me to Church

Hey guys! Sorry I’m so late – I just came back from my vacation in Vegas last night (I’ll tell you guys about that later). Can you believe it’s week 62 already?!

Most of you guys who have been following the series for a while know that I am a die-hard fan of The Trackstarz, so it’s only natural that I share some of their videos with you.

This week I wanted to share a video from a part of their radio show called “Dissect.” In this segment, The Trackstarz pick a song, read the lyrics, and discuss it. They’ve done all kinds of songs; go check it out! While you’re at it, you can catch them on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram!

In this particular video The Trackstarz are discussing the highly popular song “Take Me to Church” by Hozier. I know this song is a bit older, but I still find it very interesting. Check out what they had to say about it:

When I first heard the song, I was beyond confused. The song has a mysterious and haunting feel that made it (unfortunately) stick in my mind, but in my heart I felt guilty for even listening to it and liking his voice. You know how it is when something just doesn’t feel right? That’s how I felt about this song.

Listen to what Hozier had to say about his song on the Today Show:

Nonetheless, people still have all kinds of opinions. Some say it is completely about the church, others says it’s just a love song that uses the church as a metaphor for loving someone with evil ways. A pastor even wrote an open letter to him, expressing his thoughts on the song. No matter what the meaning, I can guarantee that this song will not be on my list of gospel music. Just sayin’.
So what do you think? Are you a fan of the song? What’s your take on it?

If you’d like to share something (Bible verse, a song, a question…anything!) that God has put on your heart or have a question or comment you would like to share, you’re more than welcome!
