You guys know how much I am in love with Reggae music and Jamaican culture. Well one of those classic tunes inspired my post for this week.
This song, if I’m not mistaken, was originally written and performed by Bob Marley, but has been performed by a number of artists and groups around Jamaica, and Black Uhuru was one of them. This is honestly my favorite versions and one that I feels brings the “mystic” feeling to the song.
Let’s just analyze this song for a moment:
First, what exactly is a “mystic?” According to Google Dictionary, a mystic is “a person who seeks by contemplation and self-surrender to obtain unity with or absorption into the Deity or the absolute, or who believes in the spiritual apprehension of truths that are beyond the intellect.” I don’t know about you, but when I read that I think about Amos 3:7 – “Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.”
There’s no need to define “natural,” since we already know what that is. But let’s think about this – who is this mystic that’s being referred to? Where did they come from? What are they saying? Maybe these few scriptures can answer the question:
Romans 8:19-23 – For [even the whole] creation (all nature) waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known [waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their sonship]. For the creation (nature) was subjected to [a]frailty (to futility, condemned to frustration), not because of some intentional fault on its part, but by the will of Him Who so subjected it—[yet] with the hope That nature (creation) itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and corruption [and gain an entrance] into the glorious freedom of God’s children We know that the whole creation [of irrational creatures] has been moaning together in the pains of labor until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves too, who have and enjoy the firstfruits of the [Holy] Spirit [a foretaste of the blissful things to come] groan inwardly as we wait for the redemption of our bodies [from sensuality and the grave, which will reveal] our adoption (our manifestation as God’s sons).
1 Corinthians 15: 52 – In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the [sound of the] last trumpet call. For a trumpet will sound, and the dead [in Christ] will be raised imperishable (free and immune from decay), and we shall be changed (transformed).
Revelation 4:1 – After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice which I had heard addressing me like [the calling of] a [a]war trumpet said, Come up here, and I will show you what must take place in the future.
1 Corinthians 2:10 – Yet to us God has unveiled and revealed them by and through His Spirit, for the [Holy] Spirit searches diligently, exploring and examining everything, even sounding the profound and bottomless things of God [the [a]divine counsels and things hidden and beyond man’s scrutiny].
Deuteronomy 29:29 – “The secret things belong unto the Lord our God, but the things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all of the words of this law.
Daniel 2:22 – He reveals the deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him!
