Weekly Blessings: Week 10

We finally made it to week 10 of “Weekly Blessings,” guys!! Get excited!!

I don’t have much to talk about this morning, but I would just like to encourage you all to not let anyone or anything stop you from receiving what God has specifically for you. I know people discuss this topic all the time, but it’s such an important concept that it never hurts to be refreshed on it.

God has a specific purpose for all of us and He wants us to reach our highest potential. However, we have to make sure that we stay focused on Him and don’t allow other, outside factors to lead us astray.

What are these outside factors I speak of? Here are a few examples:

  • Relationships
  • Thoughts
  • Family
  • Friends
  • Doubt
  • Satan

Do any of these things sound familiar to you? I think we’ve all had to deal with at least one of these things at some point in time. God’s word tells us this:

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.” ~Proverbs 3:5-6

Just because someone else doesn’t understand what you’re doing doesn’t mean that it’s not worth doing! What’s understood doesn’t need to be explained. If you and God have talked it out and you know this is what you need to do, don’t worry about the next guy(Proverbs 16:3)!

I’ll use myself as an example. I am a writer. No, I haven’t won a Newberry Medal, nor am I a poet laureate, but I am a writer. When people find out that my major is English, they automatically have this sparkle in their eye when they ask,”Oh, you want to be a teacher?” When I explain that I want to write they say,”…Oh okay,” and the sparkle is gone. I just laugh it off and keep it moving; they don’t get it. Why not? Because they don’t understand the deal between God and I. I know that He put me on this earth to write, therefore that is what I will do. People tell me all the time that they don’t understand why I have to go to college to write, that I won’t make any money, and that writing simply isn’t a respectable job. Wanna know what I say? You don’t have to understand what I do, because aim to please God and not man. That’s the most respectable job there is!

Keep in mind that, when you are flowing in your purpose, things will automatically come against you. Yes, you will stumble a few times, but you have to just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep pushing forward. God’s got your back. He’ll see you through to the end. He’s not gonna tell you what He wants you to do and then just leave you out there, high and dry; He’s going to be with you no matter what(Isaiah 30:21, Jeremiah 10:23)! Why? Because He loves you, duh!

And don’t think that your purpose just goes for a job. Your purpose could be to be the best spouse, parent, friend, neighbor, ect.. that you can be. Don’t let Satan come at you with his lies; you are who God says you are! Just focus on that and allow God to do the rest!
