Happy Father’s Day!!

Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there!!

I just would like to take the time out to commend all the father’s who did more than help bring life into the world; I want to appreciate the men who actively took a part in their children’s lives. Believe it or not there are people all over the world, young and old, who may be struggling through today because they were not able to have their father’s in their lives. So, to all the dad’s who did their God-given duty and the men who stepped up to take the reigns…..I applaud you. We all applaud you.

As I was thinking about what I would write and looking over the post I made for Mother’s Day I realized that Father’s Day is celebrated, but not much is known about it’s origin. Well my friends, it’s time to learn something!

Facts About Father’s Day

  • The holiday was founded in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, the daughter of widowed Civil War Veteran, William Jackson Smart, in Spokane, Washington.
  • The month of June was chosen for Father’s Day for the month William Smart was born.
  • Father’s Day was actually accepted by the state of Washington (1910) before the United States recognized it as an actual holiday. President Wilson participated in the 1916 celebration of the holiday in Spokane and in 1924, President Coolidge attempted to persuade the state governments to accept the holiday, but still no success. The holiday was not accepted until 1972, when President Nixon signed a proclamation making Father’s Day an official holiday.
  • In the beginning, many men were against the holiday. According to The History Channel, many men saw this holiday as a way to make them look less manly and buy gifts that were ultimately paid for with money they worked for.

Hope you learned something! Comment, share with your dad!
